Dehumidifier in Basement Set Up

Back to List

Hey everyone, I have the HDI65S running in my basement. It does a great job reducing the RH and I use the gravity drainage feature. My question is this season, I did a more "permanent" set up by moving the unit into an adjacent room near my sump pit to reduce noise and clutter. I did this utilizing the ductless feature which I have a 6' run of 6" flexible piping running to a register in the basement from the exhaust of the unit. Works great!

My question is more on the intake side of the unit, I installed a "pass through" register next to the unit and want the intake coming from the adjacent room. I sort of installed a temporary "duct" to make sure it's pulling from the adjacent room. Am I wrong in this installation? See photos attached.

Dear James,

Thank you for choosing AlorAir and for sharing your installation details.

From your description, the intake setup you designed for your SENTINEL HDI65S appears reasonable — using a pass-through return grille in the adjacent room, along with a temporary air guide, to allow the dehumidifier to draw air from the new location while still using gravity drainage to the sump pit. As long as the intake is unobstructed, the unit runs normally, and humidity control remains stable, this type of setup is generally fine.
