Amazingly efficient dehumidifier!
By 'Parker', Reviewed on December 27, 2021
This unit is heavy-duty, well-made, and commercial grade. We purchased it for a damp basement. And we love how effective and efficient this dehumidifier is. We can't believe the air quality now that it is going in our basement. We are storing things that might get damaged from moisture in the air, which has helped prevent that. And I genuinely recommend this unit.
Faithfully chugs along all day long sucking the moisture out of the basement
By 'Cynthia', Reviewed on December 27, 2021
We've had this unit running for going on 7 weeks now. It's positioned near and above a sink in the finished basement. Despite incredible humidity during this time (it's Virginia in summer, what can I say!), the AlorAir has been reliably coming on and pulling the moisture out of the air whenever the humidity climbs above the 55% that I have it set to. The hose is positioned so it gravity feed from the back of the unit into the sink's base, and occasionally I'll take a look, and sure enough, you can see it draining water while it's running. The air is more pleasant than we experienced when we first looked at the home, so that I can attest to the functionality. I have not yet tried hooking up the separate remote sensor and control unit (I haven't even purchased it yet), so I can't speak to the effectiveness of that system. I also haven't yet been able to judge how much of an extra power draw this is, although we feel it won't be too bad. If it's egregious, I'll update the review later. All in all, I can highly recommend the Sentinel 55.
Satisfied!

I have only had it for about 2 months but connected it to my crawlspace via the vent, and so far, it has taken the humidity down from the 90+% range to the 60-70% range. I will install a couple of fans down there to see if I can get the better circulation of the dry air, but this is already a considerable improvement and a way cheaper price than the $3-5K that a professional company wanted to charge for dealing with the issue. It has not increased my power bill by any noticeable amount. Not suitable for small spaces, once you attach a vent/drain and leave sufficient space around the machine intake, you need several feet of room for this. On the plus side, the area you need is around the machine, not necessarily above or below it, so it's ok to fit in shorter crawl spaces and sit nicely on a shelf.
It's working hard
By 'Frederica', Reviewed on December 26, 2021
I am doing a crawl space encapsulation project, and this dehumidifier has worked as hard as I have. It's been running a little over a week, and it's been squeezing buckets of water out of the air every day. It's been running 24x7 so far, but it should be able to go into cycle mode once I get the air-tight vapor barrier down. I like the size and robustness of the design. The filter is washable, so that is appreciated.
Solid Unit Far Surpassing Major Brand Name dehumidifiers
By 'Elvira', Reviewed on December 23, 2021
Easy setup, relatively clear instructions, appears well designed, solid unit, automatically shuts down based on humidity setting, Quiet and meeting or being Below its claimed dB level. Based on initial use of the past several weeks, I would recommend this unit and would be likely to buy it again.
Excellent dehumidifier!

This thing is a beast. It pulls a lot of air through it and has done a great job drying out my crawlspace. It makes enough noise that you can hear it when nothing else in the house is on, but otherwise, I never notice it.
Appears to be a quality product.
By 'Philip', Reviewed on December 22, 2021
The product arrived without damage thanks to quality packaging. The unit appears to be industrial rated, has a sturdy metal enclosure. It's been operating for 7 days, doing a great job holding humidity at the set point. If it continues to work without falling over 5 years (it's warranty period), I would easily give it 5 stars.
Looks well made and was very well packed!
By 'Jack', Reviewed on December 22, 2021
I've got a sealed crawlspace under my home that needs dehumidification. I bought this unit because it is short (not a lot of height in the crawlspace) and had a ducted option, which helps me circulate dry air around several large obstructions in the space. The unit was double boxed (dehumidifier w/ 4 foam corner brackets in a box, then that box was padded and inside another box). There was a hole punched in the outer box during shipping, but the inner box was still intact and undamaged. The unit itself was in perfect condition and started right up. The unit felt very industrial and was well made. I opened it up and took a quick look around. Components were well made, and electrical connections were solid. The filter is easy to remove and reinstall after cleaning. The controls were intuitive. I also bought the additional remote control (on a 25" wire, provided with the unit). I was happy with that (it allows me to check on the humidity level and change settings without crawling on my belly to get under the house).
Nice dehumidifier!

A remote controlling sensor is available with a 25-foot cable to enable full separation from the sensor from the evaporator coil. The unit has a MERV 8 removable filter to keep the coils clean. It is very quiet when operating. The only way to tell if the unit in the crawl space is running is to put my ear against the floor to hear it as the sound is too faint. Additionally, I highly recommend the hanging unit when installing. The rope system minimizes the conduction of vibration, and it raises the unit to get more height when running the gravity drain pipe.
Great well designed unit!

I finally decided to quit buying junk and started researching crawl space dehumidifiers. Most crawl space dehumidifiers are overpowering for my needs (100 ~ 200 pints per day). The Alorair HD55 is one of the smallest crawl space dehumidifiers on the market. And it is a quality design. This unit has a coated coil (in which the aluminum fins and copper tubing are coated). It is held together with stainless steel plates, protecting against premature evaporator coil failure due to formicary corrosion. Secondly, the humidifier sensor is separated from the evaporator coil and is located on the lower end of the unit to minimize triggering by evaporating moisture from the evaporator coil.
