Common Causes of Mold Growth

November 19,2020

Molds thrive well in damp areas; this is why you will get them in the kitchen, bathroom, and basement. Besides, you will find them near the pipes, the cabinet areas, and ducting areas. When human beings are exposed to them for a long time, it leads to respiratory issues. So ensuring that the home is dry throughout is one of the ways you can help eliminate molds.

But when Mold starts thriving behind drywall, it could be a big household problem. Things like cotton and wood, which are usually found in the house, are good sources of food for molds. They attract Molds and allow them to thrive. They can also grow on the ceiling and any other areas where moisture accumulates or areas that are poorly ventilated.

Continue reading this post to learn more about common causes of mold around our homes and workplaces.

Humidity

If your home is found in areas where humidity is a constant threat, mold will thrive. Also, when humidity is persistently high, you will find Mold on the walls, under the sink, in the dark closet, and on the ceiling.

People who live near oceans or lakes will find this a perennial problem. So they must ensure that the units are ventilated to reduce the problem. If the house is poorly ventilated, moisture will build up indoors and will increase mold growth. Such homes need to be dehumidified to reduce the amount of moisture in the air. Alternatively, ventilating them could help to reduce humidity and keep the mold at bay.

Leaking pipes

It could be one of the main causes of mold if the sink is under cupboards. Also, if such a pipe passes through drywall, it is likely to make molds thrive in that area. Leaking pipes in the ceiling are also likely to cause molds to grow. Also, leaks from pipes in the wall or geyser will cause Mold build-up in the affected areas. This is why it is vital to keep checking for mold build-ups on the wall or ceiling. If present, it could be a sign of a leaking pipe.

If the roof is Leaking

A roof could be damaged as a result of wear and tear. Alternatively, it could be destroyed by severe weather and make molds to build-up. When a slow leak builds up, it could lead to moisture accumulation in the attic or ceiling. It provides a conducive environment in which molds will thrive.

Condensation build-up

Many homes experience moisture build up in winter due to condensation.  Surfaces such as pipes, floor tiles, metal piping are susceptible to temperature fluctuations. The situation could be exacerbated if the house is poorly ventilated. To solve this problem, you need to install an Alorair dehumidifier. It will eliminate moisture build-up and make it difficult for molds to thrive.

Thus poor ventilation and condensation could lead to the growth of mold. When allowed to thrive in the home, molds could cause health problems. Therefore, installing an Alorair dehumidifier could provide a lasting solution to mold issues in such homes. Also, you may use an Alorair air scrubber to remove odor and purify the air in your home.
