How to connect Sentinal 55S into HVAC ductwork?

Back to List

I understand that terminals 3 and 4 can be used to turn the dehumidifier on and off. What I would like to happen is that when the AC comes on, that the dehumidifier turns off. I have this in mind to prevent the air handler back feeding into the DH as the air handler has more pressure than the DH and therefore puts more load on the DH fan . I have a back draft damper installed between the DH exhaust and the HVAC supply duct to prevent this. The DH air inlet is in the basement  beside the furnace and there are 6 supply ducts into the basement and the main return ducts are from the upstairs with a small return duct in the basement, so this should give good air mixing throughout the whole house.

How would I connect into my air handler/furnace control panel? Also if the DH is turned OFF this way, will the DH fan continue to run for the 1 minute to dry the coils? The control voltage on the furnace is 24 volts.

I realize that the 55 may be too small to dehumidify 2200 square ft. of area, but that combined with the AC it may be enough to do the job. If need be I am not averse to buying a larger unit. It doesn't appear that I would need to do anything other than to just swap out the units.

BTW, my thermostat (top end Ecobee) has the ability to control a DH If that would be a better option.

Hi Merv,

Thank you for your questions. Here's some information and suggestions:

The central control mode is not applicable to the Sentinel 55S.

Please confirm the specifications of your thermostat, and compare them with the parameters listed on the nameplate of the Sentinel 55S to figure out.
